Meet the First-Grade Teachers
My name is Marcia Monk. I received my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education in 1991 from the University of Kansas. I received my English as a Second Language (ESL) certification from Arkansas Tech University. I spent two years teaching preschool before working with children ages 0-5 in special education. I have been at Oakland Heights since 2013. I am a first and second grade looping teacher which means I am allowed to watch students grow and learn for two years. It is a great privilege to invest in the students at Oakland Heights.
My name is Antonia Orellana. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Latin American and Latino Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1995. In 1996, I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with an emphasis in Spanish (BCLAD) in the following areas from California State University, Sacramento: Early Child Ed, grades P-4, MIDCH/LANARTS/SS, grades 4-8, MIDCH/SC/MATH grades 4-8, ESL, grades P-8 and ESL, grades 7-12. I taught in Los Angeles for nine years. I moved to Russellville in 2005 and began teaching at Oakland Heights. Teaching is my passion! It is such an honor and privilege for me to be a part in the education of children. Every year that I teach is a new and beautiful experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
My name is Jennifer Staten. I graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 2015 with my master’s degree in early childhood education. I have been teaching at Oakland since 2015, and it is a privilege to call Oakland my home. I want to help my students learn and reach their full potential!
I am Jaylin Sutterfield, and I am so excited to be teaching at Oakland Heights. I grew up in Russellville and graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a bachelor's in early childhood education. I love spending my free time being outdoors, enjoying my family's company, and reading.
My name is Susan Wilson. I graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a degree in elementary education in 1996. I started teaching at Oakland in August of 2000. While at Oakland, I have taught kindergarten, first, and second grades. I have also been an interventionist and the instructional facilitator. I have my ESL certificate, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher.
